The Kohala Mountain Educational Farm has permanently closed.
The farm announced the shuttering on its Facebook page and website earlier this month, adding a “detailed closing statement” would come in the “near future.”
“It is with heavy heart we share with you today the Kohala Mountain Educational Farm is permanently closing down its operations,” the Aug. 14 post reads. “There will be no Farm School Tours or Pumpkin Patch festivities this October.”
The 23-acre farm is located between mile markers 12 and 13 on Kohala Mountain Road on land leased by Kahua Ranch. It was well-known to many island residents for its annual fall pumpkin patch and corn maze. The pumpkin patch began in 2012.
It’s unclear what brought about the sudden closure. Farmer Benjie Kent told the Tribune-Herald in a Facebook message Tuesday the farm would disclose more information next month.
“I’ll tell the reason in late September,” Kent said.
The Aug. 14 post on Facebook garnered hundreds of comments from people expressing condolences and sharing memories.
The farm said in reply to several of those comments that “sometimes visions hit road blocks” and it “unfortunately … ran out of accessing any miracles.”
